Erdogan's Anti-Assad Comment Proves Turkish Leader's Plans to Divide Syria - PYD
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Erdogan said Tuesday the Turkish armed forces' military operation in Syria is aimed to put an end to the rule of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday said while commenting on Erdogan's statement that the Turkish leader's words were news for the Kremlin, calling the statement "serious."

"We have a common position, I mean the position of Russia and Iran that [Turkish President Tayyip] Erdogan's new position differs from the one announced a week ago," Rahimpur told reporters.

"The positions of Iran and Russia are identical both during talks and in mass media. And we believe that the position should be as outlined at the talks, and recommend everyone to do so," he said.

A source in Erdogan's administration on Wednesday tried to downplay Erdogan's statement on his intention to depose Assad, saying the presidential statement "should not be perceived literally."
