WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Russian national Olga Pimanova, who was arrested by US authorities in May, has departed the United States, the Russian Embassy in Washington said in a statement.
"Russian citizen O. Pimanova has left New York for Motherland," read the statement, which was posted Wednesday on the embassy’s Facebook page.
On May 20, Pimanova was arrested on arrival in the United States at Chicago O’Hare Airport on charges she illegally took her daughter out of the country two years ago. Pimanova was placed under house arrest and required to wear a monitoring bracelet.
Russian officials noted that a court in the state of Illinois on Tuesday had permitted Pimanova's departure from the United States.
Her ex-husband has claimed that Pimanova took their daughter out of the country without his consent, which could be considered kidnapping under Illinois law. Pimanova, however, claims she is legally a single mother.
Pimanova's daughter was born in Russia and has citizenship there, Children's Ombudsman Pavel Astakhov said, adding that the girl’s return to Russia was conducted legally.
