YEREVAN (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and his Armenian counterpart Vigen Sargsyan signed an agreement on the establishment of combined forces, which would include Russian military base in Armenia, as well as units of the Armenian armed forces.
"Within the framework of the group's competence should resist aggression directed against the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, to ensure the protection of the two states' nations and territorial integrity," Maj. Gen. Andranik Makaryan said, as quoted by the Armenian Defense Ministry.
He added that the two nations also pledged to cooperate in the issues of the number of servicemen in the joint group, analysis of the military and political situation as well as implementation of tactical tasks, among other issues.
