An Egyptian military court sentenced almost 300 supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi over the 2013 clashes in the province of Ismailia northeast of Cairo, media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The defendants were given sentences from two years to life imprisonment over the storming of a court complex in Ismailia, Ahram Online reported Wednesday.

In 2013, dozens of Morsi supporters stormed and set on fire the Ismailia court complex.

Morsi won the presidential election in Egypt in 2012 to become the first democratically elected president of the country. The following year, he was ousted by the Egyptian military after large anti-government protests against him and Muslim Brotherhood movement.
