MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The updated Russian anti-doping system is expected to be launched by next May, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko said Thursday.
"The necessary task of fighting doping will be resolved. We want to propose [it] by the beginning of the year so that this system can be launched before the month of May," Mutko told RIA Novosti.
The doping scandal, simmering since 2014, escalated in July when WADA presented a report accusing Russia of running a state-wide doping program and urging the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to consider a blanket ban on the entire Russian Olympic team. The IOC instead opted to let individual sports federations decide on the matter.
