MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the ABC broadcaster, the wildfire spread through over 15,600 acres of land, considerably damaging the mountain towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Earlier in the week, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam said that the present wildfire was the biggest fire that occurred on the state’s territory over the past 100 years.

On Monday, the fires spread from the Great Smoky Mountains into inhabited areas. The wildfire erupted owing to drought in southern states.
On the same day, over 14,000 residents and visitors were evacuated from Gatlinburg.
