WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The guided-missile destroyer left a former US naval base in Panama on Wednesday with repairs following a November 21 incident that required the Zumwalt to be escorted through the canal by tugboats, US Naval Institute News reported.
The Zumwalt's crew discovered bearings that connect the ship’s motors to two driveshafts had been contaminated by seawater. The ship had a similar problem in September, causing it to be removed from service for several days the US Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia.
