MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will rule next week on whether to uphold the ban from the sport imposed on former FIFA president Joseph Blatter by the world football's governing body.
"The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will issue its decision in the arbitration procedure between Joseph S. Blatter and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) at 3.00pm (Swiss time) [14:00GMT] on Monday," the press release read.
In December 2015, Blatter was handed an 8-year suspension over his role in a FIFA corruption scandal. He was accused of paying a large sum of money in 2011 to Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) head Michel Platini, who was also suspended.
Blatter’s suspension from football was reduced to six years earlier this year by the FIFA Appeal Committee. The 80-year-old challenged the ban in the Lausanne-based court last August.
