Drunk drivers in China will now be not only fined but also taken for an excursion to a morgue where they can see with their own eyes what happened to those who did not listen to what the traffic police were saying.

'Idiot Test' That Negligent German Drivers Have to Take
During a routine night inspection in Tianjin city on November 29, traffic police led a group of drunk drivers directly to a morgue at a local hospital, Chinese newspaper People’s Daily Online reported.

In front of the morgue police officers also showed the drivers a wrecked car, in which a drunk driver had been killed. The car was carefully preserved after the accident, complete with its misshapen steering wheel and torn upholstery. There was even blood on the back seat, according to a live broadcast of the education course by Tianjin traffic police on Sina Weibo.

“I will never drive after drinking. This is horrible. If I had a car accident like this, my family would be devastated,” the report cites a drunk driver as saying after seeing the car.

Several posts on the Tianjin traffic police Weibo warned that two-time drunk driving offenders would be led inside the morgue for an even more intense lesson. The posters did not specify whether or not they would be shown real corpses.

This creative approach to educating drunk drivers received approval from social media users. In a survey on Weibo, over 90% said they totally supported the idea.

It is not the first effort by Chinese police to drive home its point to offenders in a more concrete manner. Recently it was reported that traffic police in Shenzhen make drivers who dazzle others with their full-beams stare into bright headlights for five minutes to see how it feels.
