MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the "Report on the extent to which the Member States have taken the necessary measures to comply with the Directive [23 on human trafficking]," the member states need to step up their activity in the field, paying particular attention to the issues of "specific child protection measures… access to unconditional assistance, compensation, non-punishment" among others, the press release said.
At the same time the Report "assessing the impact of existing national law, establishing as a criminal offence the use of services which are the objects of exploitation of trafficking in human beings" showed that only ten Member States have established the use of services of victims of trafficking as a criminal offense.
The European Commission spent a total of of 158.5 million euros ($174 million) of funding were distributed over 321 projects in 100 countries to fight human trafficking between 2004 and 2015.
