MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Central Bank of Russia has all the necessary tools to assist the country's banks in case of cyberattacks, however the banks should be ready to repel such attacks themselves, the Central Bank's Governor Elvira Nabiullina said Friday.
"The Central Bank has all necessary tools, if other banks need help… Such attacks took place in the past, and the main thing is that the banking community should prepare to repel these attacks. For these purposes, we have created a special center, Fincert, which is receiving the information and helping banks to be prepared for such attacks," Nabiullina said, addressing the Russian State Duma.
According to Nabiullina, the Central Bank is in contact with both the Federal Security Service (FSB) and other banks considering the issue.
At the same time, according to Olga Skorobogatova, Central Bank's deputy governor, the Bank of Russia is protected from possible cyberattacks.
"I can say that the Bank of Russia is protected, and in at our premises, we do not expect any possible unpleasant situations, as we are using Russian-made security systems, which have undergone the whole certification process, and, from time to time, we are carrying out test loads and test procedures to ensure safety in case of emergencies," Skorobogatova said, addressing the State Duma.
FSB warned earlier in the day that foreign intelligence services planned cyberattacks on the financial sector in several dozens Russian cities from a Ukrainian hosting company's servers located in the Netherlands. The attacks are said to start next Monday, December 5, the FSB noted, adding that it was taking measures to ensure Russia's economic and information security.
