The robot is a life-size statue of the sci-fi battle suit piloted by one of the characters in the popular anime series “Mobile Suit Gundam.”
The statue will be removed on March 5 next year, Bandai Namco Holdings Inc. and the three other companies behind its installation, said on December 1, Japanese Asahi newspaper reported on Friday.

The news came as a shock to anime fans, but they still have hope, since Gundam Info site reported that the companies are working on a new project, but did not disclose details.
Since 2019 is Gundam's 40th anniversary, it might be a reconstruction project to create an even greater display, social media and local outlets say.
