TIRASPOL (Sputnik) – The self-proclaimed Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria) faces problems with delivering imported goods because of the Chisinau’s blockade, Transnistria’s Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev told President Yevgeny Shevchuk on Friday.
"We are facing problems with transition of oil and lubricants, implementing import of goods that are delivered to Transnistrian economic agents," Ignatiev said, as quoted by the Shevchuk’s press service.
He also pointed out that that Moldova was violating the 2012 agreement on the railway service.
Transnistria, a region with a predominantly ethnic Russian and Ukrainian population, broke away from the Soviet Republic of Moldova in 1990, fearing the country might seek to reunify with neighboring Romania. The move triggered a war that ended in a ceasefire in July 1992, but the conflict has remained unresolved. Russian peacekeepers have been preserving peace in the region, along with their Moldovan and Transnistrian counterparts.
