Two coal mine explosions in the Chinese city of Chifeng in the Inner Mongolia and in the city of Qitaihe in the northeastern China's Heilongjiang province killed at least 38 people, according to local media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 38 people were killed in two separate coal mine explosions in China this week, state media said Saturday.

A mine blast in the Chinese city of Chifeng in the Inner Mongolia killed 17 people on Saturday and raised the death toll among miners to 38 this week after 21 people were killed as a result of a disaster in the Chinese city of Qitaihe in the northeastern Heilongjiang province on Tuesday, the Xinhua news agency said.

Last month, a total of 33 people were killed in a gas explosion in a coal mine in China's Chongqing Region.
