MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia fears US missile deployment to the Asia-Pacific region creates security risks and calls for a comprehensive dialogue, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Saturday.
"We turned the attention of our Japanese colleagues to the threats that the deployment of US global missile defense to the region poses. Russia believes that regional security cannot be provided by [military] blocs but through a universal dialogue based on the principles of integrity and security," Lavrov said at a meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida.
A batch of initiatives is being discussed at various East Asia summits to address security issues in the region, Lavrov added.
