MOSCOW (Sputnik) In October, Russian citizen Yuri Kirdushkin was arrested in Manila airport with nine kilograms of cocaine on him. He is now facing a life imprisonment. On Friday, media reported that Russian national Anastasia Novopashina was detained in Manila airport attempting to smuggle cocaine.

"We are working very closely with the Russian consulate in the Philippines on a matter. I have assured the foreign minister that everyone will be given a fair trial, their fundamental rights will be recognized. We are presently completing investigations on these matters and a significant development we will be sharing with diplomatic officials in Russia," Yasay said speaking at press conference after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.

He added that everyone had to be held accountable for the violation of local laws.
