MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to a press release published on the government’s website, Dion concluded on Tuesday a five-day visit to Lebanon, announcing further support to reinforcing country’s security and stability.
"Canada and Lebanon have a strong and deeply rooted relationship, and our two countries continue to work closely together to achieve peace, security and stability in the Middle East. We hope Canada’s support will help Lebanon and its host communities build resilience and cope with the ongoing crisis in the region," Dion was quoted as saying in the press release.
The money is also set to be provided for projects aimed at alleviating refugee’s burden, engaging women into social sphere, preventing terrorism and extremism expansion.
According the press release, since November 2015 Canada has resettled more than 35,000 Syrian refugees, almost half of them are from Lebanon.
Amid the largest international migrant crisis since World War II, triggered by ongoing conflict in Middle Eastern countries, Canadian authorities announced in late November 2015 that they would not refuse from the refugee welcoming policy despite the fears of the terrorist threat.
