"I disagree that cooperation between Russia and the Council of Europe has been stalled because of sanctions of PACE. I am sure that this issue will be solved at some time," Jagland told reporters after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
Jagland pointed out that Russia participated in all activities in intergovernmental committees and monitoring bodies of the Council of Europe.
"Suspension in PACE has not affected our intergovernmental work, and I am very glad about it," the official added.
In April 2014, PACE adopted a resolution depriving the Russian delegation of the right to vote and to be represented in the governing structures of PACE for a year. The measure, taken over Crimea's reunification with Russia and the internal Ukrainian crisis, was later prolonged for another year. In 2016, Russia decided not to send the documents to PACE to confirm the credentials of the delegation.
