MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The party has to pay the fine until 12 December 2016.
"The Liberal Democrats have been fined £20,000 as a result of the Electoral Commission’s investigation into the party’s 2015 UK Parliamentary General Election campaign spending return… The investigation found that 307 payments totalling £184,676 were missing from the Liberal Democrats’ spending return without a reasonable excuse," the statement read.
Every political party in the United Kingdom is obliged to submit a full and complete campaign spending return to the commission.
During the last general election Liberal Democrats suffered a crushing defeat losing 15.2 percent of the vote.
