'Detective Story': Russia, US Still Cannot Reach Agreement on Syria
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia and the United States are continuing contacts on Syrian settlement at the expert level, there is no information yet on new proposals, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

"There are contacts at the expert level. If we speak about talks regarding new proposals, I do not know about any plans for such talks," Peskov told reporters.

Moreover, the Syrian army is managing to liberate more and more districts of Syria's Aleppo from militants with each day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

"We only have information that every day the Syrian army manages to liberate more and more districts of Eastern Aleppo from terrorist groups," Peskov told reporters.

"As regards withdrawal of militants, as you know, they were offered to leave, and this issue was discussed even earlier. This issue is really on the agenda," he said when asked whether talks were ongoing with armed groups on their withdrawal from Aleppo to Idlib.

"Unfortunately… most part of militants remain on the site," Peskov said.

Kerry, Lavrov Stress Importance of Continuing Syria Talks in Geneva
On December 2, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his US counterpart John Kerry agreed on the plan, which will allow all militants without exception to leave Eastern Aleppo, at a meeting in Rome.

On December 3, the Russian foreign minister said that Moscow was ready to send experts to Geneva as soon as possible to agree with US colleagues on joint actions, allowing militants withdrawal and non-interrupted humanitarian deliveries.

On Tuesday, the United States notified Russia that consultations on Aleppo cannot begin as Washington withdrew its current settlement proposals.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with opposition factions and Islamist terrorist groups such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front, now known as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, both outlawed in Russia and the United States, fighting the Syrian Army.
