President-elect Donald Trump said on Wednesday that allegations that Russia interfered with the US presidential election.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On November 9, Republican candidate Donald Trump won the US presidential election triumphing over his Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton.

"I don’t believe it. I don’t believe they interfered," Trump said in an interview with Time.

Asked by the magazine if the conclusion reached by US officials was motivated by politics, Trump replied, "I think so."

In October, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security issued a joint statement saying Washington was "confident" the Russian government had directed computer attacks against US political organizations.

The Russian government has called claims it interfered in US elections "absurd."

Democrats in the US Congress have sent letters to the Obama administration in the past two weeks requesting classifIed briefings on the details of the alleged Russian hacking activities.
