MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In an April 2013 letter Grayling wrote:
"I would not be in favour of changing the current arrangements – not because I have any fears over the immediate future, but because I would like to keep suburban rail services out of the clutches of any future Labour Mayo."
In response, Khan released a statement on Wednesday stating that the government had gone back on their promise, and replaced the original transfer plan, led by Johnson and Grayling’s predecessor Patrick McLoughlin, with a proposal which provides none of the benefits initially promised to commuters. He stated that TfL have proven themselves capable of improving the quality of commuter transport by increasing the frequency of trains and lowering fare costs.
Earlier this year, the government indicated that services operated by Southern, Southeastern and South West trains could be devolved to London's transport agency once the current franchises end.
