ANOSINO (Sputnik) — Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) warned last week that foreign intelligence services planned cyberattacks on the financial sector in several dozen Russian cities from a Ukrainian hosting company's servers located in the Netherlands. The attacks were said to start December 5.
"It is evident that attacks on us also have a political element. We saw successful attacks in December 2014… Today 98 percent of crimes are committed in the cyber form. First of all these are people who embarked on a criminal path. And also there are political motives," Gref said.
He said a hacker attack on Sberbank in December 2014 resulted in panic among depositors and withdrawal of cash from Sberbank to the tune of 1.3 trillion rubles ($20.5 billion).
"Now, I think, they have no chance to be successful… The situation of late 2014 taught us a lot," Gref said.
