MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The council specified that the measures would not be applied to Ireland and the United Kingdom.
"On 7 December 2016, the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) confirmed, on behalf of the Council, the compromise text agreed with the European Parliament on a regulation to revise the suspension mechanism which can be applied to all existing visa liberalization agreements. The agreement was reached between the Council, Parliament and Commission on the same day," the press release read.
The next step for the agreement is to be voted in the parliament and then adopted by the council.
On July 7, the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs also recommended to grant visa-free travel to the residents of Ukraine, Georgia and Kosovo.
