MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At present, only Great Britain, Poland, Greece and Estonia meet a NATO goal of spending at least 2 percent of GDP on defense.
"It's not a secret that the 2% increase in defense budgets by the NATO members and non-allied EU countries will bring additional $100 billion to their combined military spending," Grushko said in an interview with Rossiaya-24 television.
"Obviously, it will only escalate tensions in security situation in Europe and could lead to serious consequences in terms of a new spiral of arms race," Grushko stressed.
