MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the document, Steinmeier and Lavrov discussed arms control, the situation in Ukraine and the economic cooperation within OSCE.
"A clear invitation [was extended] to Russia to work with the Council of Ministers to avoid exacerbating the tensions that have recently been on the rise in Europe, and not to deepen the trenches and already bitter conflicts of interests," the German Foreign Ministry's press release said, after a meeting of German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
Steinmeier also called for an immediate ceasefire in Aleppo and stressed the urgency of the return to the political process of resolving the conflict in Syria.
The OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers will be held in Hamburg, Germany later on Thursday with a special focus on European security.
