Residents of Aleppo who managed to leave the besieged eastern parts of the city currently reside in a refugee camp which was set up by the Syrian and Russian governments.
Abu Ahmad further told Sputnik that the suffering that they faced at the hands of al-Nusra Front made their entire family consisting of 4 adults and 3 children risk their lives in order to escape.
“Thank you to the Syrian soldiers who risked their lives to save us. They provided my family with a car and took us to the medical center with Russian doctors. My wounded sister received first aid and we were placed in temporary shelters in the city,” Ahmad said.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting opposition groups striving to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad. Damascus is also fighting numerous extremist groups, in particular Daesh, a terrorist group outlawed in Russia and many other countries.
