Retired Adm. James Stavridis told reporters he met with President-elect Donald Trump in New York City on Thursday and discussed cybersecurity.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Trump is reportedly considering Stavridis for the post US secretary of state.

"[I had a] terrific meeting with president-elect Trump," Stavridis said at the Trump Tower lobby. "We talked about the world, discussed cybersecurity."

According to Trump's transition team, the highly-anticipated announcement to nominate the new secretary of state is expected next week.

Stavridis was on the short list of individuals considered by Democratic presidential candidate and Trump rival, Hillary Clinton, to be her running mate in the 2016 election.
