'NATO is Last Thing They Have': UK Dreams Up Russian Threat After Brexit Trauma
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — When asked whether he believes if relations between the United Kingdom and Russia will be different after Brexit, Hunt stated, "I think not in the short term."

Hunt noted strong tensions still exist about the events taking place in Syria as well as in the field of sports.

"Even in the context of Brexit there are still, I think, some concerns about the direction of Russian policy," Hunt said. "In the long term, you know, hopefully I think we all want it to change."

Since 2014, relations between Russia and the European Union, including the United Kingdom, deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. Brussels, Washington and their allies introduced several rounds of sanctions against Russia over its alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, which the Kremlin has repeatedly denied.

On June 23, the United Kingdom voted in a referendum to leave the European Union, a move better known as Brexit. UK Prime Minister Theresa May said the country would trigger Article 50 by the end of March 2017, thus kick-starting negotiations to withdraw from the bloc.
