CAIRO (Sputnik) — The Sunday attack on a Coptic cathedral in Egypt’s capital and the Friday blast in Cairo, which left six policemen dead have similar modus operandi, a source from the Egyptian Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.
"There are similarities between the terrorist attack on the el-Haram street and the blast at St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in the Abbassia district… in both cases there were explosives devices with big amount of TNT, which were detonated remotely," the source said.
On December 9, an improvised explosive device went off in Cairo, killing at least six policemen and injuring six other people. A source in country's Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti that a terrorist group affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh, outlawed in Russia) jihadist organization might have been behind the deadly explosion.
Earlier in the day, the explosion, which claimed lives of at least 25 people, took place near Cairo's Coptic Cathedral. The bomb was allegedly thrown by an unknown attacker during a praying service.
