KALININGRAD (Sputnik) — Poland introduced temporary border controls due to the NATO summit that took place in Warsaw on July 8-9 and the World Youth Day in late July. In August, Poland decided to leave in place the restrictions on the Kaliningrad border. Poland has promised to lift the restrictions but has so far kept them in place.
"Members of parliament from the Polish People's Party submitted a draft resolution calling on the Polish government to resume small border traffic with the Kaliningrad Region. The Warmia-Masuria Pomerania regions are suffering economic losses due to its suspension, party representatives say," the center said in a statement on Sunday.
Party leader Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz called on all parties represented in the Polish Sejm to support the resolution.
"Poland's relations with Russia and the Kaliningrad Region are suffering as a result of the suspension of movement. There is no Polish food on Russian tables, instead of that there are Iskander missiles on the Polish border. This is a dubious achievement by the Polish government," he said, as quoted by the cultural center.
Russia and Poland signed an agreement on vise-free trans-border travel several years ago before it came into force in 2012. The agreement covers the Kaliningrad Region and Poland's Warmia-Masuria and Pomerania regions.
