WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Americans in Brazil are being warned to avoid a demonstration near the State Legislative Assembly in the city of Rio de Janeiro because protests often turn violent, the US Department said in a travel advisory on Monday.
"US Citizens should avoid the pretests and areas where large gatherings may occur," the advisory stated. "Even demonstrations or events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence."
The warning was issued following postings on social media about a demonstration planned later on Monday, the advisory added.
