MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Chairman of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Azam Saigol has resigned in the wake of last week's plane crash, PIA spokesman Danyal Gilani said.
"Chairman PIA Mr. Azam Saigol has resigned due to personal reasons," Gilani tweeted on Monday.
A PIA flight PK-661 was carrying 43 passengers and 5 crew members when the plane lost contact on its way from Chitral to Islamabad and crashed into the mountains near the town of Havelian on December 7. None of the 48 people on board survived. The cause of the crash remains unclear but the PIA officials have already announced that it was "highly unlikely" a terrorist attack.
