BELGRADE (Sputnik) — The desire of the Syrian people to have legitimate authorities should become the basis for the resolution of the ongoing conflict in the war-torn country, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Yildiz said Tuesday.
"The key issue of this question is the aspiration of the Syrian people to have legitimate authorities … If we accept this, it will be easier to resolve the crisis. Otherwise, the terrorist aggression and other problems will worsen," Yildiz told journalists.
Yildiz noted, answering a question about Russian-Turkish talks on Syria, that the "fight against terrorism and protection of Syria's territorial integrity was important for the both sides."
Earlier in the day, Yildiz took part in the 35th Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) ministerial meeting in the Serbian capital of Belgrade.
