US President Barack Obama may have begun weapons supplies to the so-called moderate Syrian opposition before he made an official announcement of this, the announcement itself is directly linked to the attack on the Syrian city of Palmyra, Syrian President Bashar Assad told the RT broadcaster.

This is How Daesh Militants Manage to 'Secretly' Crawl Up to Palmyra
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Last Thursday, Obama waived legal restrictions outlined in the US Arms Export Control Act, which forbids providing defense-related supplies or services to countries that are not cooperating fully with US anti-terrorism efforts. On Sunday, Daesh terrorists recaptured the ancient city of Palmyra in the Homs province, Syria.

"We're not sure that he lifted that embargo when he announced it. Maybe he lifted it before, but announced it later just to give it the political legitimacy," Assad said.

According to the Syrian president, there is a correlation between the timing of the announcement and the attack on Palmyra.

"There's a direct link between these two, so the question is to whom those armaments are going to? In the hands of who? In the hands of ISIS [Daesh] and al-Nusra [Front], and there's coordination between ISIS and al-Nusra. So, the announcement of this lifting of that embargo is related directly to the attack on Palmyra," he stressed.

The US does not want to resolve the Syrian crisis, it just seeks to create chaos by announcing it was lifting its arms supplies ban, Assad said.

"So, the crux of that announcement is to create more chaos, because the United States creates chaos in order to manage this chaos, and when they manage it, they want to use the different factors in that chaos in order to exploit the different parties of the conflict, whether they are internal parties or external parties," Assad said.
