MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Her comments came as the Syrian government forces are in the final phase of liberating the besieged city from terrorists. According to the Russian center for Syrian reconciliation, on Wednesday only 1 square mile of the city's territory was still under the militants' control.
"We have a big quantity of medical supplies, we have medical equipment ready, ambulances ready, we have staff and drugs ready, we have non-food items ready so for us it is more a matter of security than speed. It is very close to Aleppo — to deploy staff, ambulances, the stock will be a matter of hours if security guarantees would be met," Sancristoval said, adding that the guarantees of the save passage of medics must be provided not only by the Syrian government and its allies, but also by all the opposition groups active on the ground.
MSF has been supporting eight hospitals in east Aleppo with medical supplies since 2014. But since the siege started in July, access to these medical facilities has been complicated while hospitals were hit by bombs in more than 30 separate attacks.
According to Sancristoval, few medical facilities are still running in Aleppo, but they work under "very substandard, rudimentary conditions". MSF pledge to bring all the equipment needed for starting up a mobile hospital and to stabilize the wounded patients' condition before moving them out of the ruined city.
