MOSCOW (Sputnik) — She stressed that some of the Western states still considered the militants using civilians as human shields to be so-called moderate opposition, which was unacceptable for Russia.
"Frankly, we are disappointed with the actions of the western coalition in Aleppo. There is no secret that there were many instructors from different countries in Aleppo who helped the militants," Matvienko told reporters, adding that the coalition tried to conceal this fact.
Over the recent months, Aleppo became a major battleground in Syria between government forces and militants. On Tuesday, the Russian reconciliation center said that the Syrian government army was controlling over 98 percent of the territory of Aleppo, with militants present in less than 3 square kilometers (1.1 square mile).
