US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power attacked Russia, Iran and Damascus for alleged "carnage" in Aleppo equating the countries' efforts to liberate the city to the Rwandan genocide. Russian envoy Vitaly Churkin's asked Power to stop pretending to be "Mother Teresa" and remember the role the US played in the Syrian crisis.

A Tuesday UN Security Council meeting ended up with Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin and his American counterpart Samantha Power crossing swords over Syria.

Churkin repelled Power's allegations regarding what she branded as "carnage" in Aleppo and reminded the US representative of Washington's long record of irresponsible policies in Iraq and Syria.

Addressing the Security Council Power Tuesday claimed that "Aleppo will join the ranks of those events in world history that define modern evil."

"Halabja, Rwanda, Srebrenica, and now, Aleppo," she said, putting the liberation of Aleppo on par with Iraq's chemical attack on the Kurdish town of Halabja back in 1988 and the Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

"To the Assad regime, Russia and Iran, your forces and proxies are carrying out these crimes…  Are you truly incapable of shame? Is there literally nothing that can shame you?" Power asked pathetically.

However, Churkin's reply was not long in coming.

"I do not want to remind the Western Troika [the US, France, the UK]… about its role in the creation of ISIL [Daesh] that came as a result of the American-British intervention in Iraq; the US policies in this country facilitated the emergence of ISIL. I do not want to remind about the role that these three countries played in inciting the Syrian crisis, which resulted in dire consequences and opened the door to terror spree in Syria and Iraq," the Russian envoy emphasized.

What was even more astonishing, Churkin highlighted, that it was Samantha Power, the representative of the US, who hastened to lecture Russia, Iran and Syria on morality.

"The US representative's speech has appeared particularly strange to me," Churkin pointed out, "she has made her statement as if she were Mother Teresa herself."

No Confirmation of Atrocities in E Aleppo From Independent Humanitarian Orgs
"Remember which country you represent. Remember what the track record of your country [contains]," the Russian Ambassador told his American counterpart.

On Tuesday Rupert Colville, spokesman for UN High Commissioner for Human Rights claimed that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had allegedly killed at least 82 civilians in their offensive on Islamists-held districts of Aleppo.

However, independent humanitarian organizations operating in Aleppo did not confirm the accusations regarding the SAA's alleged atrocities in the city.

"By the way I know first-hand assessments of independent humanitarian organizations, which still have their representatives in east of Aleppo. None of them confirm reports about committed atrocities, kidnapping of people, who are escaping from eastern Aleppo," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters Wednesday.

On December 13, Syrian government forces retook 98 percent of the city from extremists prompting Aleppo residents to take to the streets to celebrate the impending liberation of the city.

Still, the US' stance on Syrian affairs leaves more questions than answers.

Speaking to journalists Wednesday Lavrov emphasized that Washington's inconsistent position during the Russo-American negotiations over Syria could be only explained by the US seeking to protect al-Nusra Front terrorist group from attacks.

"They continue to avoid taking aim at al-Nusra Front militants in every way possible," Lavrov remarked.

As it turned out the "humanitarian pauses" demanded by Western countries were used by terrorists to rearm and regroup, the Russian top diplomat pointed out.

Lavrov emphasized that the situation in Aleppo will be finally stabilized in the next few days and Syrian civilians will start returning to their normal life.

"Only the intervention of our Russian Aerospace Forces allowed the Syrian to stop this threat [Daesh] with great difficulty and begin to push terrorists out. I hope that in the next two or three days the situation in eastern Aleppo will be resolved," Lavrov emphasized, stressing that Moscow and Damascus created humanitarian corridors which allowed tens of thousands to flee the embattled city.
