WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Linda Thomas-Greenfield will visit Liberia for three days beginning Wednesday for the ceremonial restart of a hydroelectric plant being rebuilt with US aid, the Department of State announced in a release.
"The US government, through the Millennium Challenge Corporation, has been a key financial contributor to the rehabilitation of the Mount Coffee plant, as part of its commitment to double electricity access in sub-Saharan Africa through the Power Africa initiative," Tuesday’s release explained.
Thursday’s ceremony will mark the commissioning of the first of four turbines at the Mount Coffee hydropower plant, the release noted.
Thomas-Greenfield will also meet with senior government officials, participants in President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative, and female students taking part in the Obama administration’s Let Girls Learn initiative, according to the release.
