Earlier this month, Shapiro and Vice filed more than 50 freedom-of-information requests with the FBI seeking documents about its discussions about Donald Trump along with other material. Vice said Tuesday’s lawsuit is the fourth that it and Shapiro have filed regarding Trump since September.
According to the report, Vice and Shapiro’s lawsuit also seeks FBI records about allegations the bureau may have violated the Hatch Act by using its authority to influence the 2016 election, all bureau leaks of information to the media, and all communications with Breitbart.
In a freedom-of-information reply Vice said it received 10 days after the November 8 election, the FBI wrote that the “nature” of the records request “implicates investigative records the FBI may or may not compile pursuant to its broad criminal and national security investigative missions and functions.”
Breitbart runs a website that trades in conspiracy theories, and its former executive chairman, Steve Bannon, was chief executive of Trump’s campaign and is slated to be a key White House adviser.
