MADRID (Sputnik) – Three people were arrested in the French southwestern Pyrenees-Atlantiques department during an operation to seize arms of the Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) Basque nationalist group, the Spanish Interior Ministry informed.
"The [Spanish] Civil Guard in collaboration with the [French] General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) has carried out an operation against the arms and explosives deposits of the ETA terrorist group in France," the ministry said on Friday, adding that "three persons were detained inside a house in the French town of Louhossoa, in the department of Pyrenees-Atlantiques."
The Interior Ministry did not rule out that more arrests could be made, as the operation is ongoing.
The ETA group, founded in 1959, operates in northern Spain and southwestern France. It is part of the Basque National Liberation Movement. Spain, the United Kingdom, France and the United States have branded it a terrorist organization.
