WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Johnson said he was disappointed that the CIA would provide information on the alleged hacking to US media outlets like the Washington Post and NBC News, but dismissed a request by the Senate Homeland Security Committee.
"I returned to Washington this week and requested the CIA to provide a briefing on Russia’s cyber capabilities and its involvement with the US presidential election. The CIA refused this request," Johnson stated.
In October, the United States accused Russia of conducting cyberattacks on US political institutions to influence the presidential campaign, but did not provide any evidence.
The Kremlin has repeatedly denied the claims as groundless. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that stories about Russian hackers and spies were attempted to distract US voters' attention from domestic issues.
