WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh in Syria and Iraq since 2014. The strikes in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or the United Nations Security Council.
"Near Palmyra, 10 strikes engaged an ISIL [Daesh] tactical unit; destroyed 14 tanks, three artillery systems, two ISIL-held buildings, two tactical vehicles, and an air defense artillery system," the release stated on Friday.
Five more strikes in Syria hit the cities of Deir ez-Zor and Ayn Isa, engaging Daesh tactical units and destroying terrorist-held buildings, tanks, artillery systems, an air defense artillery system and two supply routes, according to the release.
The coalition also conducted three airstrikes in Iraq, including one near Mosul. The strikes engaged multiple Daesh tactical units, destroyed terrorist-held buildings, fighting positions, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, a heavy machine gun, and a mortar.
Daesh is outlawed in the United States, Russia and many other countries.
