"Libya is a rich country, which needs foreign experience and support of such great states as Russia. We see that there is a large room for developing the relations between Libya and Russia, there are long-standing ties in various fields: oil and gas, railways, agriculture and others, and we need Russia in the reconstruction of the country and to train the army in particular," Saleh said.
Saleh stressed that Libya had vast potential for cooperation, possessing "all the natural riches," including gas, gold and iron resources, as well as tourist regions and assured that the country remains committed to its obligations taken before 2011.
Libya has been in a state of turmoil since 2011, when a civil war began in the country and its longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown. In December 2015, Libya’s rival governments — the Council of Deputies based in Tobruk and the Tripoli-based General National Congress — agreed to create the Government of National Accord (GNA), to form the Presidency Council and to end the political impasse.
