Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took part in the signing of the document.
Moreover, Russia and Japan are planning to join efforts in development of innovative nuclear technologies, as well as in overcoming the consequences of Fukushima nuclear disaster, Russia’s Rosatom nuclear energy corporation said in a statement on Friday.
"The memorandum includes the list of key areas of cooperation such as… consideration of the establishment of a joint platform connecting platforms in Japan and Russia to discuss ways to allow for exchange of personnel and ideas aimed at promotion of innovative nuclear technologies," the statement said.
The statement added that the memorandum also implied cooperation in coping with the consequences of Fukushima accident.
