WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US defense contractor General Dynamics won a $125 million Navy contract to modernize Arleigh Burke-class Aegis missile defense ships and guided missile frigates, the Department of Defense said in a press release.
“General Dynamics Bath Iron Works [of] Bath, Maine, is being awarded a $125.9 million [for ]… integrated planning yard services for Arleigh Burke-class and Oliver Hazard Perry-class ships,” the release said on Thursday.
Bath Iron Works will provide expert design, planning, and material support services for both maintenance and modernization work on the ships, the release added.
Russia has repeatedly opposed the US developing its missile defense systems, which Moscow said undermine international stability because they violate the equal security principle and have led to the arms race.
