Kazakhstan to Consider Possibility of Hosting Intra-Syria Talks

Kazakhstan is ready to consider the possibility of hosting talks between the Syrian government and the opposition, if such request is be made, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

ASTANA (Sputnik) — On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that together with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan he would offer Syrian conflicting parties to resume negotiations in Astana. Putin believes the Astana talks may serve as a supplement to the Geneva talks.

"If there is an agreement to conduct talks on Syrian future, and Kazakhstan receives a request to host the meeting between the government and the opposition, we will carefully consider our answer and present our position, in a timely manner," the ministry said.
