"For years, the CIA has directly and indirectly been arming so-called ‘moderate’ rebels who are allied with al-Qaeda to overthrow [the] Syrian gov[ernment]," Gabbard tweeted on Friday night.
Although outgoing US President Barack Obama addressed the humanitarian needs of the people in the Syrian city of Aleppo during his press conference on Friday afternoon, he failed to address his administration’s "actions fueling the crisis," Gabbard also said.
Over recent months, Aleppo became a major battleground in Syria as government troops sought to liberate it from militants and terrorists holding its eastern part.
"This is why I introduced #StopArmingTerroristsAct — to end this madness which is causing great suffering, while strengthening al Qaeda," Gabbard stated on Twitter.
On December 8, Gabbard introduced the Stop Arming Terrorits Act, which would prohibit the United States from using US taxpayer dollars to provide funding, weapons, training and intelligence support to terrorist groups such as the Islamic State.
