BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The European Union lacks the political will to end the anti-Russian sanctions although it is beginning to realize that restrictions are absurd, Russia's Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said Monday.
"They, unfortunately, do not have enough political will to put an end to the sanctions, although more and more people in the European Union, including among the leaders of EU member states, of course, understand the absurdity of these sanctions decisions," Chizhov told RIA Novosti.
Russia has been targeted by several rounds of sanctions inflicted by Brussels, Washington and their allies in light of Crimea’s reunification with Russia in 2014 and on the pretext of Moscow's alleged involvement in the Donbass conflict, a claim that Russia has repeatedly refuted.
