Pathankot attack took place on January 2 when a group of armed terrorists stormed the airbase. Seven Indian military and security personnel, as well as four attackers, were killed as a result of the 17-hours-long gunfight.
"During investigation, NIA investigators collected sufficient evidence in terms of statements of the witnesses to establish that the terrorists had been trained, motivated and radicalised by Maulana Masood Anzhar and Mufti Abdul Rauf," the agency explained.
According to the chargesheet released by the NIA, four suspects are to be held responsible for the attack as the organizers, including Azhar and his brother. The other two people named in the chargesheet are Shahdi Latif and Kashif Jan, the alleged launching commander and main handler of the attack, respectively. All four suspects are residents of Pakistan.
"It has also been established through legal intercepts and statements of witnesses, that Kashif Jan and Shahid Latif had guided, equipped and launched the four terrorists, who carried out the terrorist attack at the Air Force Station, Pathankot, killing and injuring innocent persons and destroying public property," the NIA investigators explained in the statement.
The chargesheet also named four additional attackers who had been killed during the standoff with security forces at Pathankot, but underlined that "prosecution against these attackers was recommended to be abated since they are dead."
Investigators added that for the arrest of the first three accused the Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN), a type of alert which implies seeking the location and arrest of a wanted person. The issue of RCN against Kashif Jan is still in process.
